Description

Lot No: 331A
1949 MG YT Tourer
Registration no. MGY-49T (NSW expires 17/6/11)
Chassis no. 3384
Engine no. XPAG/TR/13236
MG announced the new Y-Type model in May 1947, a compact sports saloon powered by the 1,250cc XPAG engine which it shared with the sporting two seater TC Midget. The saloon featured handsome pressed steel, six-light coachwork, retaining much of the glamour of the MG sports cars but providing enclosed motoring. The success of this model led to the introduction of the four-seater YT tourer in October 1948, a beautifully styled two door car with true vintage qualities. The YT was produced mainly for the export market. The XPAG engine was fuelled by twin SU carburettors, developing 54bhp, and the engine drove through a four-speed gearbox. Just 877 YTs were made before the model was discontinued in 1950 and relatively few survive today, particularly outside the Colonies.
A concours winning MG, this YT Tourer was previously owned by an eccentric MG collector in Glenorie. Th
