Description
"The MG B was launched in May 1962 to replace the MG A. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coupé with 2+2 seating was added in 1965 with production continuing until October 1980. The MG BGT sported a ground-breaking design by Pininfarina on launching the sporty 'hatchback' style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the GT offered the utility of a hatchback while retaining the style and shape of a coupé. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and far more luggage space than in the Roadster. Relatively few components differed although the MG BGT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars and a modified windscreen which was more easily and inexpensively serviceable. Acceleration of the GT was slightly slower than that of the Roadster due to its increased weight. Top speed improved by 5mph to 105mph due to improved aerodynamics.
It is thought Maidstone Classic Sportscars handbuilt four MGB GT RV8’s. This example started life as an 1800cc MGB GT and was used regularly. However, as their family grew the car was used less and less and was eventually put into storage under cover. Some years later the owner’s husband decided to recreate the car he always wanted but could never find - an MGB GT RV8. Taking some five years to complete, the car was rebuilt from top to bottom. A new Rover Heritage GT bodyshell was used and an RV8 bodykit sourced from John Hills. The engine was rebuilt to fast road specification and a five-speed gearbox fitted. A bespoke leather and walnut interior was also fitted together with telescopic suspension and brakes. A huge history folder accompanies this MG with invoices for parts alone exceeding £20,000. It is estimated the build cost today would be over £40,000. This exceptional car presents beautifully and viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate the quality."
