In 1974 this MG B GT V8 in Damask Red was delivered to its first owner in Preston, Lancashire, England. The connoisseur then immediately knows that that color is exactly the one that still adorns the car today. It gets even better when you know that the V8 is also the one that was installed in this copy at the factory. The most recent, Dutch owner bought the car in 2003, twenty years ago. This owner was quite addicted to his V8, but first a little bit of history about the B GT.
What else do we need to explain about the MG B? Not much, right? The British roadster is one of the most famous and popular classic open two-seater cars and for years it was almost the standard when you thought of a classic roadster. The closed B GT is a bit less known, but no less fun. In fact, the GT is becoming more and more the most popular version of the MG B. We understand why!
The beautiful GT line, which is a cross between a fastback and a hatchback, comes from the pen of Pininfarina, who was commissioned to draw a closed variant of the roadster. And so in 1965, three years after the open MG B, the GT appeared.
The GT you see here is also one of only 1,856 produced cars with a V8 engine. The car you see here is therefore able to make many classic car enthusiasts' hearts beat faster.
The car was delivered on 19th August 1974 and we know this because that information can be found in the Heritage Trust Certificate that comes with the car. Of course, that certificate also states that the car left the factory on the original V8 wheels. The car is now equipped with 15” Minilite knock-off wheels, but the original ones are with the car in unrestored condition.
The owner was more than happy with his car and had a lot of work done to make it even more fun and better to drive than it did from the factory. For example, he had the car converted from right-hand drive to left-hand drive and electric power steering found its way into the B GT. There is also a brake booster with a separate braking system and Koni shock absorbers have been mounted and the V8 drives even tighter due to the polyurethane bushings in the suspension. There is also an oil cooler, aluminum hood and K&N air filters. The result of the technical adjustments? 145 hp, measured on the dynamometer.
The GT is in an optimal condition and you can see that when you look at the bodywork. The paint is very nice and the body is sleek and intact. Beautiful fits characterize the hinged parts and the chrome work is also as it should be.
The GT has a leather interior in a stylish natural shade. It combines great with the warm red paint! The interior is very nice, with the upholstery of the seats developing a light patina over time. Beautiful! The dashboard, with the well-known Smiths gauges in top condition, all buttons are just as beautiful and the steering wheel and lever are complete without signs of wear.
The most beautiful thing is of course driving the B GT V8, with the 3,528 cc measuring power source coming from the shelves of Rover. The eight-cylinder in this copy is perfectly adjusted and with the necessary modifications, the MG kicks it up to 145 hp. Often the reaction when hearing that there is a V8 in such a compact car is that it must undoubtedly steer worse, but that is not the case: because the V8 is made of aluminum, this engine weighs 20 kilograms less (!) than the well-known four-cylinder . You don't have to worry about the technical condition, everything is very well maintained and the enjoyment can start as soon as you leave Brummen.
The car comes with the Heritage Trust Certificate, as well as some invoices, some articles, an original Workshop Manual of the MG B GT V8 and an original instruction booklet.
A great and rare B GT V8 in a condition where the real enjoyment begins as soon as you turn the key.
