Introduced in 1962 and on the strength of the very successful MG‘A‘, the MG‘B‘ was to become perhaps the most successful British sports car ever. The strong mechanical design of the model and its timeless styling were popular throughout the world, with over 350,000 cars built over nearly 20 years in both open and closed body styles. In 1973 MG introduced what is widely regarded as the ultimate B model, the V8. With the aluminium 3 1/2 litre V8 engine originally developed by Buick, and subsequently by Rover, this lightweight engine gave the car much improved performance. With just over 2,500 cars produced, it is little wonder so many replicas have been produced, often badly, over the years.
