The SLR is a tour de force of technology with leading F1 constructor McLaren and car giant Mercedes combining their considerable talents to produce without doubt, the ultimate incarnation of the sports car.
The SLR boasts a hand-built 5,439cc supercharged, all-aluminium, SOHC V8 engine. The Lysholm-type twin-screw supercharger produces 0.9 bar of boost and enables the engine to produce 617bhp and 580 lb/ft. of torque. Power is fed to the wheels by AMG’s Speedshift 5-speed automatic transmission with 3 manual modes. Unlike most of its contemporaries, the engine is front-mid mounted. McLaren took the original concept car designed by Mercedes and moved the engine rearwards around 50 centimetres behind the front axle.
The SLR features active aerodynamics; there is a spoiler mounted on the rear integral
