Mercedes-Benz revealed the 500 SLC to bring an end to its C107 platform, which had been largely unchanged since the early 1970s. The new model—named for its 5.0-litre displacement—replaced the outgoing 450 SLC with a lighter, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient V-8 engine. The 500 SLC’s time in the spotlight was short-lived, with a production run lasting only 18 months, spanning from March 1980 to September 1981.
The example offered here was newly configured in Blue Green over a Beige leather interior. Further to the list of standard equipment that includes central locking, electric windows, cruise control, headlight wipers, power steering, and a limited-slip differential, the 500 SLC was specified with a desirable optional sliding sunroof. While its production date is unknown, the Mercedes-Benz was not registered for the road until 21 November 1984. The left-hand-drive car is known to have spent time in the United Kingdom prior to moving to France, and joined The Road and Track Collection in 2022. In the care of the consignor, the car has undergone a respray—pictures of the work are available to view in the history file. It has since been detailed and ceramic coated.
In production for such a short time, Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts will relish the opportunity to acquire such a rare interpretation of the popular C107 series.
Please note this car is currently undergoing registration in France, as such there will be a delay to the new owner receiving the title.
