= Remarks =

The R230 generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class was introduced at the IAA Frankfurt 2001 and the IAA Bologna 2001 and replaced the R129. The R230 underwent revisions in 2006 and 2008 and was succeeded by the new R231 SL-Class in 2011.

Development

The development of the virtual design took place in a room full of advanced computer technology, the so-called "CAVE" (Computer Aided Virtual Environment). This technology had previously been used for the design of the W203 in 1995.

The supercomputer in the "CAVE" was able to create full-size images of selected designs using five projectors, allowing designers to inspect every detail of every displayed surface. Parallel to the virtual process, the twelve scale models were also thoroughly examined, with four striking models being selected to be recreated at full scale. This development of the scale models took place parallel to the development of the interior design. On June 16, 1997[5], the final design for the R230 was approved by the Board of Management and further developed into production specifications in 1998. The design patents for the R230 were filed later on September 9, 1999 in Germany[6] and on March 1, 2000 in the United States.

In July 2001, after more than five years of development, the new SL was unveiled and introduced at the 2001 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Production began on October 13, 2001 at the factory in Bremen and European sales started in November of that year.

First generation
This car first appeared as a Safety Car for Formula 1 during the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim in 2001. The street version was unveiled at the 2001 IAA. The series was launched with a commercial called Lucky Star. This Mercedes 350 SL is the version of the SL equipped with the V6 engine. With this engine, which is significantly more economical than the five-liter version, it drives absolutely wonderfully. The previous owner of the Mercedes purchased the car as the second owner and had it thoroughly inspected at an official Mercedes dealer, after which he drove the car for approximately 10,000 km to his full satisfaction. The car still drives perfectly and looks almost like new. Under the hood, we see the V6 engine as if it were still new. This engine also delivers an impressive power output of 245 hp, so it is certainly not underpowered. The steel folding roof closes perfectly, making this car suitable for use in winter as well. A perfect Mercedes-Benz for the true enthusiast.

This vehicle has Dutch registration.
