Mercedes SL500 (R129) 2000

With the R129 designation being introduced in 1989 to replace the R107 and running until 2001, this makes this example one of the last SL500 R129 produced for the UK market. The R129 models are all fitted with removable hard tops as standard and can be removed to unveil the fully electronic soft top and the R129 was also the first model that introduced fold out rollover safety bar that pops up at the touch of a button when the hard top is removed. The SL500 was fitted with the more powerful of the 3 engines offered at the time with both the SL280 and SL320 both being fitted with the V6 and the SL500 with the V8 offering over 80 hp increase in power over the SL320. The Mercedes M113 V8 engine fitted to the SL500 is a 24-valve 5 litre V8 offering 302 hp mounted to the updated 5 speed electric automatic gearbox allowing the car a limited top speed of 155mph.

This SL500 offered is a wonderful example of a UK RHD R129 finished in the rare colour of Blue Quartz Metallic (347U). It is clear that the owner of the car cared very much for it and such the condition of the car is excellent even after its 83,000 miles with it being serviced every year since his purchase in 2011. The car has a complete service history from new and have all been completed by either MB main dealers or specialists. The hefty history file of the car filled with MOTs, various invoicing for work carried out which include a full respray on the car in 2015 totalling £3049.20 after the owner thinking the fabulous Blue Quartz was starting to lose it’s gleam. During his ownership the car has been fitted with a Brembo big brake kit, uprated adjustable suspension, sports exhaust, AMG wheels as well as a full Becker audio system which succeed in addressing the weaknesses of the standard R129.
