Description
Tracing its roots to the immortal W198 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, the SL-class has built a worldwide cult following, renowned for its refined and luxurious approach to open-top motoring. The R107, built from 1971 to 1989, is certainly no exception and has remained a symbol of Mercedes-Benz excellence thanks to its build quality, reliability, and timeless design.
Presented here is a highly original and ideally equipped, final-year 560 SL, finished in its original Arctic White with a Blue leather interior and wood-accented dash. According to its original window sticker on file, this 560 SL was dispatched to Foreign Motors West Inc. of Natick, Massachusetts, on August 23, 1989, for a retail price of $65,780. Sparingly used by its first owner, the 560 SL was acquired by its second caretaker, Joseph Federico of Dedham, Massachusetts, in 1997, showing just 3,911 miles.
Assuming ownership in 2018, the current owner treated the car to a professional refinish of the wheels and interior wood, returning them to the outstanding quality of the balance of the car. In the years since, the 560 SL has been carefully preserved and driven sparingly, showing just over 9,900 miles when catalogued. A true modern classic and a delight to drive, the R107 stands as one of Mercedes-Benz’s most iconic models, and this superb example is an ideal candidate to complete any SL collection.
