Description
"The Mercedes-Benz SL range of models have been in production for over sixty years metamorphosing from the Le Mans winning W194 of 1952 to the technologically advanced, aluminium bodied supercars we find today at Mercedes-Benz World. One thing however, has not changed over the years – its fundamental character and identity as an upmarket well-built sports car. You could say the fabulous SL AMG model of today with its gullwing doors is the spiritual successor of the 1956 W121 class Gullwing. Backed by its racing pedigree the SL’s glamorous reputation was further enhanced by its appearance on TV when it was rare to see an episode of Dallas or Dynasty in the 1980’s without the SL making an appearance! These third-generation SL’s, the R107, looked ‘the part’ in all their guises – the soft top up or down or with the Pagoda hardtop in place. The simple to use, almost genius soft top mechanism when folded down out of sight under a panel gives the car its beautifully sleek, uncluttered appearance. With the hardtop in place you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a fixed head coupé. No less than eight different engine options were available ranging from the straight-six 2.8 litre to a mighty 5.6 litre V8. Although a manual gearbox was available, it is very rare and most examples are fitted with an automatic gearbox which best suits the car’s designation as a grand tourer.
Originally registered on 6th June 1985 this R107 Mercedes is fitted with the smooth and responsive 3.8 litre V8 Engine. It is a superb example that presents in excellent condition all round. The Pagent Red coachwork is in excellent order as is the cream leather trim. Stylish Mexican hat alloy wheels complement this delightful colour combination. Supplied with the original service books, this has clearly been a very well cared for Mercedes-Benz. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 11th April 2024, together with the original toolkit and a factory hardtop. We are advised this R107 drives as good as it looks, it is rare to see them this good. "
