Description
The SL holds an allure unlike many other cars, the combination of near bullet-proof reliability and unrelenting class and style. The R107 generation, which was produced for a mammoth 18 years, homes in on some of the best “SL” characteristics. As at home on the streets of Brentford or the Autobahn as it is parked outside a country manor.
This unique example is a 1982 500 SL, that comes with a rich history file, and a genuine 33,000 miles. Supplied new to the largely rust free island of Jersey by Jackson’s Garage Ltd, it wasn’t until October of 1985 that the SL was first registered in the UK. During its 42 year life, the car has had just 4 former keepers, and all of them have been able to keep detailed records of its history safe, including the original pre-delivery inspection.
At a time this SL was owned by Ian Skipper O.B.E an experienced dealer who built a substantial dealership network throughout the North of England before continuing his entrepreneurial efforts with businesses like Cosworth Engineering.
The aforementioned impressive history file details maintenance and MOT records right back to its earliest MOTs and in more recent times the car has received a full major service including new injectors and brake fluid change by our on-site Mercedes Specialists - Starwerks.
To the interior you’ll find recently restored leather, re-connolised, not retrimmed which is complemented by the classic Mercedes gauge cluster and dash which is all in correct working order. The tan seats are complemented by a colour matching roof and carpet set, which are both in perfect shape. There is of course, a colour coded factory hard-top that is supplied with the car.
Under the bonnet you’ll find the 5-litre M117 V8 - a powerhouse of a unit. The engine bay is clean and tidy and with its extensive maintenance records and low-mileage you can rest assured that you have many years and miles of service.
The exterior presents in fabulous condition, having been refinished after it was purchased by its current owners in 2014 by Graeme Hunt. Whilst not its original shade of Brown, the Black paintwork is resplendent, deep and lucious and compliments the interior colour scheme perfectly. The soft top roof has been replaced in recent years and the removable hard top roof is in fantastic condition.
Overall this represents a unique opportunity to own a beloved classic with a truly unique and deep history with incredibly low mileage.
As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The SL can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
