In June 1974, the 280SL was introduced to the public by Mercedes-Benz. In connection with the oil crisis of 1973, it was decided to also launch a more economical model. A six-cylinder in-line engine with 185 hp and 238 Nm was chosen. The average consumption was 1:8.5.
The Mercedes-Benz SL R107 is perhaps one of the most versatile classics in existence. Sporty but comfortable, solid but with character, a choice made with reason but also with feeling. An all-rounder that quickly became clear that this model would also be very popular in America.
Our original Dutch-delivered 280 SL from 1976 had a combination of silver-gray metallic with a dark blue leather interior and was delivered to the first owner in February 1976.
The interior is completely original and very beautiful in terms of color composition, such as a completely blue interior of the seats, the dashboard and the upholstery and all of this is still in very good condition. And to top it all off, the car received a new black soft top.
Technically, the Mercedes has been well maintained and the gearbox was overhauled in 2017, the cylinder head was overhauled and the timing chain was replaced, for which invoices are available.
The engine runs very nicely, the automatic transmission shifts smoothly, driving an R107 gives you that typical luxurious Benz feeling that only Mercedes can do.
The overall condition of the car is quite original, and untouched, we call that 'in good used condition'. The car comes with the original instruction booklet and the necessary documentation.
