The Mercedes 280SL does not need to be introduced, the penultimate model of W113 range, powered by the most powerful engine from the S class, with a body designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq. Its success was immediate, and remains today, thanks in particular to its reliability and versatility of use. Its removable roof, in addition to the classic fabric hood, is curved in shape, which gave the car the nickname of the pagoda, in reference to the Chinese architecture.
This example was sold new in Germany in 1969. It then passed into the hands of a Swedish woman, owner of a chain of hotels in the United States. The car was parked in the garage of her Stockholm residence alongside a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing. It stayed there for 20 years, used only in the summer months. Acquired by the current owner directly from this lady, the car was sent to Mercedes-Benz Deman in Brussels for extensive work, so that the car is in near factory condition. More than €22,000 have been spent, including the complete heating system, the cooling system, the overhaul of the mechanicals, replacement of the hoses etc. It comes with its hard-top and does not lack allure with its grey metallic livery and red leather interior. It will surely satisfy any enthusiast wanting to enjoy this great classic, made that much more attractive by the very-pleasant-to-use automatic transmission.
