Description

"DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTION
The Mercedes-Benz W113 SL was developed under the auspices of Mercedes-Benz Technical Director Fritz Nallinger, Chief Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut and Head of Styling Friedrich Geiger. The lead designers were Paul Bracq and Béla Barényi, who created its distinctive, patented, slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the 'Pagoda' nickname. The model was manufactured from 1963 through to 1971 and boasted an in-line straight six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. The larger capacity 2.8 litre was introduced in 1967 and remained largely unchanged until 1971, it represents the most desirable of all the SL range, producing, as it does, more power with an improved five main bearing crankshaft, combined with eminently capable handling and disc brakes all round, making a wonderful driver’s car.
This lovely usable example of the Mercedes-Benz Pagoda commonly referred to as a California Coupé is presented in silver with black trim. Originally registered to South Africa, we are informed that this is a very solid example and perfect for summer motoring or a light restoration should a new owner wish. Having been owned by our vendor for the past seven years and for 15 years by the owner prior to him, this is a car that has spent much of its recent life tucked away in covered professional storage. Early this year the decision was taken to have the car recommissioned ready for the summer which included a new fuel tank, battery, and cleaning of the fuel injection system. Offered with the owner’s manual, original South African Certificate of Title, current Irish registration document, NOVA certificate and UK MoT test certificate, the car is ready to be registered in the UK or exported to Europe or, indeed, back to South Africa by any new owner. Boasting the best combination of the slick Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission with the larger 2.8 litre engine in a righthand drive, we believe this Pagoda to be great value for money.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
