History:
The Pagoda was born in 1963. It succeeded the 300 SL and the 190 SL. Its pagoda-shaped hardtop gave it its nickname. Offered as the 230 SL, 250 SL, and then 280 SL, it marked the history of the Mercedes roadster through its balance of comfort and sportiness. The 280 SL, launched in 1968, received the most powerful 2.8-liter engine in the range.
This example was first registered in the United States on September 15, 1969, in California. It was purchased by the current owner in 2018 and imported by a Belgian specialist well recognized in the Pagoda market. The car was registered under a collector's carte grise in France the following year.
Condition:
This Pagoda is presented in good overall condition.
The bodywork presents well, with good panel alignment. The paint is well presented. We note a few marks of use, consistent with the car's age. The black soft top was replaced in 2024 and is in like-new condition. The car comes with its hardtop.
Inside, the beige leather upholstery is very well preserved. The gauges and instruments are functional.
The 6-cylinder engine starts without hesitation and shows good torque. It recently underwent a complete service in July 2025 (engine oil change, new spark plugs, installation of electronic ignition with the original distributor retained, gearbox oil change). The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly. All 4 shock absorbers were replaced in 2019.
🛞 Tire DOT: 2017.
