This elegant Mercedes ‘Pagoda’ was delivered new in Beaulieu- sur-Mer on the Côte d’Azur in September 1968. It was finished in ‘Papyrus White’ with a hardtop to match. In 1977, when the car had covered only 33,930km, its first owner had the engine and gearbox replaced, as the two Mercedes books confirm. The cabriolet was then acquired by its second owner, from Nice, at the end of the 1970s, from whom its current owner bought it in 1989, when it had 92,631km on the clock. In 1992, after the front right part of the car was damaged in a crash, the body was repaired and repainted by the Mercedes dealer in Agen, who at the time looked after its regular maintenance. In 2018, extensive work was carried out: a new hood was fitted, the body seals and walnut trim replaced, the leather upholstery and carpets refurbished, a period Becker Mexico radio installed, and the car given a major overall service. A substantial history file shows the service work carried out on the 280 SL throughout its life, while a detailed valuation report was drawn up in September 2020. The jack and tool roll are also both present. With only three owners since new and a clear history, this Mercedes is ready to be driven, and enthusiasts will undoubtedly fall for its attractive dark blue interior.

The auction of this lot will take place on Friday 18 March 2022.
