Description

With only one year of production, the Mercedes 250 SL is the rarest of the “Pagoda” series W113. The 250SL offered the early styling of the 230SL, but with the noticeably increased performance of the 2,5 litre straight six engine. Other improvements on the 250SL included four wheel disc brakes, improved engine cooling, and an extra 17 liters of fuel capacity. And what makes this particular 250SL extremely special is the factory equipped ZF 5-Speed transmission : of the 5196 examples of the 250SL produced, only a 112 received this upgraded option ! The race bred and time-tested ZF transmission totally transforms the character of the car, but still with the option to cruise in the relaxed 5th gear.

This example was delivered new in France in 1967, and crossed the pond to America in 1978, where it was always well maintained by its Connecticut owner. In 2016, the Mercedes returned to Europe and was kept by its Belgian owner until 2019. Then the car received a big overhaul, including a repaint in its original colour Dunkelgrün and a complete mechanical restoration. The Mercedes is of course full matching nrs, with the original factory fitted ZF 5-speed gearbox. The colour combination is still as it left the factory in 1967, and also the matching original hardtop comes with the car.

A 250 SL with 5-speed gearbox is one of the most collectible Mercedes sportscars due to its rarity, and with only 112 examples produced this type of car is not often available on the market. Now available in our showroom for viewing.
