The Mercedes-Benz W121 BII series was produced from 1955 to 1963 and sold as the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. A total of approximately 25,881 units were made. The R121 was introduced in 1955 to provide an affordable version of the legendary 300SL (R198) and was succeeded by the Pagode SL W113 in 1963.

In 1953, the first studies were conducted for an open version of the 180 Ponton sedan, with two or four seats. The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is therefore technically based on the sedan of the W121 series, the so-called "ponton model". To distinguish the 190SL from the 190 Ponton model, the factory code W121 was supplemented with the addition B2 (for Series II), so the correct internal designation is W121B2. Based on the later internal numbering of the SL models with the abbreviation R, the 190SL is referred to as such. The 190SL was available exclusively with a 1.9-liter four-cylinder inline petrol engine; equipped with twin carburetors, this delivered approximately 77 kW (105 hp) from the factory.

The 190SL closely resembled its "big brother," the 300SL "Gullwing," but among other things, the engine performance was significantly lower than that of the 300SL, which had a direct-injection 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 158 kW (215 hp). Daimler-Benz therefore described the 190SL in the brochures as a "touring car" and not as a sports car.

This Mercedes presented here is a fully restored car in which everything has been done, including the engine overhaul.

The body is very sleek, and there are photos of the restoration and the interior. These show that it was done very thoroughly. This is a matching numbers car. Only the carburetors have been swapped from Solex to Weber. This is the only compromise that has been made. The car comes with a large folder containing a data card, an operating manual, an original brochure, and many invoices from the restoration. A beautiful 190 SL for the discerning classic Mercedes driver.
