Description

*FOR SALE* MERCEDES 190SL // GERMAN CAR // FULLY RESTORED // FANTASTIC CONDITION

EQUIPMENT
LHD, 4 Speed Manual, Black Fabric Roof, Fire Engine Red Paint, Tan Interior, Electric Power Steering, VDO dash clock, Lockable glove box, Heater, Ash Tray, Map light, Dash mounted mirror

EXTERIOR
Finished in fire engine red this SL presents in wonderful condition throughout thanks to a comprehensive restoration. The paintwork is rich and consistent whilst the chrome work frames the car so wonderfully well – windscreen, door caps, mirrors and bumpers in a traditional sense but the innovation of the chrome finished arches, alongside the sills, make this model stand out as one of the prettiest convertibles ever produced. Simply the car is a work of art with the 190 SL model designation sat proudly on the rear boot.

The black soft top, hidden by a beautiful Tan leather cover in keeping with the interior theme, presents in excellent order while rubber seals have all been replaced and remain soft and supple. Lights and glass show as new; clear and crack free.

INTERIOR
The cabin space is a delight with a combination of Tan leather, red dash inserts and chrome work that ensures an alluring combination of style and grace. The leather throughout has clearly been professionally maintained with seats, door cards, visors and dash top all soft to touch and in fantastic condition. A matching red painted dashboard brings a more performance related feel to the cabin space although the chrome work ensures an elegant and sophisticated experience. A black soft top with a matching tan leather cover completes this charming 190.

A smooth Ivory coloured steering wheel now features electric power steering; enhancing that tactile connection to classic car motoring in style.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The superbly clean engine bay shows in the same vein as the rest of the car and is in excellent working order. It fires into life on the first turn of the key, idles smoothly and provides ample drive to propel itself and occupants through country roads or famous promenades alike. The common replacement of Solex carbs with twin Weber carbs can be found to immediately remedy any worry of issues with the original carburettors; a modification strongly recommended by Mercedes specialists.

This powerplant is paired with a tactile 4-speed transmission alongside a fully independent suspension; Mercedes’ clever low-pivot swing axle in the back and anti-roll bar up front ensures a comfortable ride with athletic handling.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fitted to the steel wheels are sporting red and chrome wheel surrounds, all of which show with minimal wear whilst tyres are as new; a matching set of classic whitewall Maxxis MA-1’s.

The brakes are in excellent working order; feelsome and easy to modulate without adverse pitch or pull.

HISTORY FILE
This beautiful 190 SL was first registered in Germany before export to the US. The car enjoyed long term ownership by an Adrienne Michelon of Chicago for 26 years before returning to Europe and a new home in Greece, 2008. The car then underwent a full restoration whilst under the care of the new Greek owner, with both images and invoicing of the work carried out present in the history file.

In 2015 the car would be imported into the UK and has had just one owner throughout it’s time here. The car has been used carefully in the summer months and now not only benefits from the aforementioned Weber carburettors but the addition of electric power steering.

The car had a dymano recon with subsequent voltage regulator in 2017 whilst the last fluids service was carried out at 52,755 miles with attention also to the steering damper and fuel hose.

This stunning example of one of Mercedes most cherished designs is UK registered and includes a fantastic history file detailing the significant steps of it’s 65 year journey.
