Description

Much like the BMW 507, and the Porsche 356 speedster, the 190 SL owes it existence to Maximillian Edwin Hoffman who persuaded Mercedes, that they too should offer a car especially for the convertible loving US market.
Having first wowed the world in concept form at the 1954 New York International Motor Sports Show, it was finally launched at the 1955 Geneva Motor show as an entry level brother to the 300 SL gullwing.
Powered by an all-new single overhead camshaft 1.9L 4 cylinder engine, it put out 105 Bhp and 142 NM of torque, and could reach a top speed of 170Kmh.
The car we have here, is a very early car first registered in July of 1955 in its Homeland of Germany.
It was subjected to a full nut and bolt restauration and is arguably better than when it left the factory. Finished in resplendent Gunmetal metallic over a tan interior, it is fitted with the very rare period sideways fitting 3rd seat, and matching hardtop.
The vehicle will be delivered with a fresh MFK (Swiss MOT) and up to date servicing from our Mercedes-Benz classic centre.
