Back in the days of the S-Class W140, AMG models were marketed independently of the Mercedes Benz sales system. They were not official models of the brand and did not even benefit from a warranty from Mercedes Benz.
AMGs first appeared on the Mercedes-Benz stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1991. In January 1991, Mercedes-Benz and AMG began working together. The first new project was the AMG S-Klasse. The AMG 140 programme began immediately after the presentation of the production model. Mechanical preparations were soon available with engines specifically developed by AMG. The most popular were the V8 6.0 and the V12 7.0, 7.2 and 7.3.
This example is a 1994 S500 6.0 AMG, prepared by AMG Japan. It is unique in that it has received the full AMG preparation: interior, bodywork and powertrain. In fact, it is equipped with the fabulous 6.0 M119 V8 from the tuner that made its reputation, which develops 380 horsepower here.
This is a rare transitional model. In 1994, the range was restyled and the name changed from 500SE to S 500. The first 1994 S 500 AMGs kept the old body kit for a few months, but had the new interior layout and technical improvements of the new vintages.
Brand specialists estimate that around 32 cars were produced, all vintages combined. The 6.0 v8 disappeared for good from the AMG catalogue for the 1996 model year.
After spending many years of its life in Japan, its country of origin, it was imported to the United Arab Emirates. It was then put up for auction with just 60,500 km on the clock. It was acquired by its current owner, a fan of the brand. It was he who imported it to France.
A true rarity, this 6.0 presents itself well. The special woodwork is in good condition, as is the leather. The road test revealed a pleasant car, bursting with torque. The value of AMGs produced before the merger with Mercedes-Benz (pre-merger) is only increasing. So don't hesitate!
