  • Equipped with the ‘Wide-Body’ AMG body kit and a 5.6-liter engine

While Mercedes-Benz and AMG’s first joint product was the C36 of 1993, the two companies had been collaborating for years before. Such was the quality of AMG upgrades that AMG-delivered cars received full company warranties through Mercedes-Benz dealerships. Incredibly expensive, as a result “pre-merger” AMG modified Mercedes-Benzes were very rare, and as such are highly sought after today.

Introduced in 1990, the 560 SEC AMG was perhaps the most fabled of the pre-merger automobiles. On the SEC platform, AMG offered engine modifications with displacements of 5.0, 5.6, and 6.0-liters. Externally, these cars were fitted with distinctive AMG-designed front and rear fenders and door panels that allowed much wider wheels and tires to be fitted, inspiring the nickname “Wide Body.”

The example offered here is fitted with a 5.6-liter engine although it is badged as a 6.0-liter example and fitted with the AMG ‘Wide-Body’ kit. It is accompanied by service documents from its time in Japan, proving its low mileage, as well as a full service in the U.K. dated 2016. Having previously resided in a large collection of 1990’s-era performance cars, in 2019, the car was purchased by the consignor and imported to the United States, where it resides today.

Unquestionably one of the most iconic and recognizable German cars of its era, AMGs modified W126s offered unparalleled luxury, performance, and German reliability wrapped up in a visually stunning package. This example presents in wonderful condition both inside and out and has clearly been well looked after since day one and carefully enjoyed.
