Description

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SD was created especially for the North American market and was recognized by Motor Trend magazine as the Import Car of the Year in 1981. The SD was the diesel variation of the S-Class series, or Sonderklasse (Special Class), also known internally as W126. These cars were built to be durable, economical, and ultra-comfortable for long-distance driving.

This remarkable example was completed in August 1984, and originally purchased by Carl and Sarah Wanamaker of Townsend, Delaware. It remained in the family for nearly four decades, before being acquired by the current owner in 2022. Showing less than 36,000 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloguing, it remains in virtually original condition inside and out. Beautifully appointed in its factory color scheme of Orient Red (DB 501U) paint over beautiful Palomino (254) leather, the 300 SD was serviced by marque experts Mercedes-Benz of The Woodlands, Texas, in June 2022, and remains in prime condition complete with a recent service receipt. The car is presented with its jack, tool kit, owner’s manuals, sales brochure, and spare set of keys, as well as original spare tire, radio, and first aid kit.

For the astute Mercedes-Benz collector, this 300 SD is a beautifully preserved example. In largely original yet excellent condition, with very few miles and cared for by the same owner until recently, this 300 SD has thousands more miles in its future and an aesthetic that’s timeless.
