The Ponton was the first Mercedes-Benz built according to the "unibody" principle. This means that the entire body of the car is one whole, against which the powertrain is mounted by means of subframes. This is in contrast to many cars of that time that were built with a separate body and a separate frame. This 220S is powered by a six-in-line.
The 2.2 liter engine produces 115 horsepower and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission with steering wheel shift. The engine runs silky smooth and the transmission is precise. The chassis is mainly set for comfort and the brakes can also be dosed well. The car is also equipped with independent wheel suspension.

The fits of the sheet metal are as you would expect from a Mercedes-Benz of this caliber, but the paint and chrome work also contribute to the overall appearance. The Mercedes is on neat summer tires from the Goodrich brand in the right sizes. As for the interior which exudes luxury and opulence in the beautiful red which matches the body color cream beautifully, we see no flaws and all instruments function and the Mercedes is equipped with a Halda tripmaster and its original Becker radio. In short, a unique Mercedes-Benz 220S in a beautiful color scheme.
