Description
Timeless Elegance from Stuttgart – The 1996 Mercedes-Benz E 320 Coupé
With the introduction of the W124 model series in the mid-1980s, Mercedes-Benz created one of the great milestones in automotive history. Setting new benchmarks for quality, safety, and durability, the W124 remains widely regarded as one of the finest and most robust model ranges ever produced by the Stuttgart manufacturer. Introduced in 1987, the C124 Coupé occupied a special position within the range. It combined the engineering excellence of the saloon with an elegant, distinctive body featuring pillarless side windows and beautifully balanced proportions that continue to exemplify timeless automotive design.
Following the model update in 1993, the Coupé was renamed the E 320 Coupé. At the same time, it benefited from numerous technical refinements and the introduction of Mercedes-Benz's smooth and sophisticated 3,199 cc inline six-cylinder engine. Producing 220 PS (217 hp), the refined powerplant is renowned for its exceptional smoothness, generous torque, and effortless long-distance cruising capabilities. Combined with the seamlessly shifting four-speed automatic transmission and classic rear-wheel drive layout, the E 320 delivers the composed and confident driving experience for which Mercedes-Benz became renowned throughout the 1990s. Never intended as an overt sports car, the C124 instead embodies the concept of the elegant grand tourer, combining comfort, sophistication, and everyday usability in remarkable fashion.
The example offered here is a 1996 Mercedes-Benz E 320 Coupé presented in classic Black with a well-preserved Grey leather interior. This timeless colour combination perfectly complements the elegant lines of the coupé while harmonising beautifully with the subtle chrome accents and the exceptionally high-quality craftsmanship of the cabin. Having covered just 97,000 kilometres, the car remains in remarkably well-preserved original condition.
The current owner acquired the vehicle from a Swiss dealership in 2018. Since then, it has been carefully maintained and used exclusively as an enthusiast-owned classic. The coupé has had only two owners from new and benefits from a fully traceable maintenance history. All servicing and maintenance have been carried out regularly, including the replacement of the braking system in both 2018 and 2022. Accompanying the vehicle are the original service booklet and an extensive file of invoices documenting its careful upkeep. The most recent Swiss roadworthiness inspection (MFK) was completed on 9 October 2025.
Particularly noteworthy is the car's highly original state of preservation. It still retains its original factory paintwork and is attractively equipped with cruise control, air conditioning, and discreetly installed rear parking sensors, which enhance everyday usability without compromising the car's classic character.
