★ NO RESERVE AUCTION — the highest bidder wins.

Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse 230 CE W124, 1991. One owner, 122,787 km, service books from new.

DAS BESTE ODER NICHTS.

There was a time, somewhere between the end of the Cold War and the moment the first airbags became commonplace, when Mercedes-Benz built cars that were quite literally intended to last for eternity. Not as a marketing line, but as a corporate philosophy. In Sindelfingen sat engineers who took it as a personal insult if a door didn't shut with precisely the right sound. A 'thunk' you'd need to enrol on a course to reproduce today. The W124 is the monument to that mindset. Overengineered to the bone, and precisely for that reason so beloved by everyone who understands that quality outlives time.

My father had one once. A 200 D, dull as a wet Tuesday, but it fired up in the freezing cold while the neighbour was frantically pumping away at his French contraption and still couldn't coax the thing into life. I never realised how special that reliability was until, years later, I found myself driving cars you had to test for their mood every single morning. A W124 has no mood. A W124 simply does.

And then, at Mercedes, they also had the good taste to turn it into a coupé. The C124, as the initiated call it. No B-pillar, so wind the windows down and you're left with that gorgeous, unbroken glass flank with nothing in between. A detail today's designers can only dream of, because crash regulations make it impossible. Bruno Sacco drew a line here that still holds up four decades on. No fuss, no frills, just timeless elegance pressed into steel.

The story continues on our website, where the full file is kept as well. 97 photographs including the underside. The service history, scanned in full. Paint thickness measured panel by panel. The original factory brochure to page through. A timeline from 1 January 1991 to today, with every owner and the mileage year by year in a single graph.

Every car here follows the same route: first pre-market, then the showroom, and finally the live auction on our own site. What changes is the way you buy, not the location — once a car has arrived, it stays with us in Katwijk. This one is in our live auction, and it runs without a reserve. There is no floor and no hidden minimum: when the clock runs out it goes to the highest bidder, whatever that figure is. Even if you are the only bidder.

Bidding opens at € 100. The bid increment is € 100. The auction closes on 11 October 2026. If a bid comes in during the final minutes, the clock keeps running, so everyone has a chance to respond. A bid cannot be withdrawn once the auction is running. If you win, the sale is concluded; if you buy as a private individual, you then have the statutory fourteen-day right of withdrawal.

Within the EU no customs duty arises on this purchase. Registration tax and registration costs in your own country are not included. We supply the export documents and assist with the registration. We arrange insured door-to-door transport worldwide, cost quoted per destination beforehand.
