Description

I have had many great examples of the W124 Mercedes E class over the years but this 24 valve Estate is one of the finest. It had just one owner from new until this summer when I bought it and it has covered 68,000 miles from new and remains in virtually perfect and completely original factory order throughout. This car is proof that this was the best era for Mercedes build quality as many say although praise is also due to the owner who evidently drove and looked after the car perfectly.
Originally supplied by Portfield Mercedes in Chichester, the Mercedes was used regularly up until 2005 and was maintained as per schedule initially with the supplying dealer and later by the Mercedes Benz dealer in Guildford. In 2005 the car with 67,700 miles recorded and in immaculate order was placed in one of the owners heated motor houses along with his extensive classic car, motor cycle and automobilia collection. Here it remained and was only used for the odd very local trip until I purchased it in July last year.

The Mercedes was unmarked and original and drove extremely well nonetheless I felt it important to recommission the car correctly and hence sent it straight to a very diligent Classic Mercedes specialist for their evaluation. A full inspection revealed no major problems and the subsequent invoice of £2,500 details the work completed. The car was fully serviced with all new fluids, ignition leads and distributor cap, the radiator was replaced as were many gaskets to ensure no mechanical leaks whatsoever. All drive belts were renewed as were all wiper blades and the tyres although not worn were old and so were replaced with correct original fit Continental type. The fuel tank was flushed and a fuel treatment system used. Lastly, the non-working electric aerial and stereo were replaced with an original fit Hirschmann electric aerial unit and correct period Mercedes brand Becker stereo unit.

Subsequent to this work I have completed a couple of hundred dry summer ‘running in’ miles and can confirm that the car is as new to drive in all respects.

The detail condition of the car is truly astonishing, underneath and in the wheel arches the original finishes are perfect as are the door shuts and under-bonnet area with all original stickers present and perfect, even the wheels retain the factory red circle stickers. Inside there is no evidence of any wear indeed it smells like a new W124.

It comes with all books including original stamped service book in the original wallet, perfect original over mats including boot over mat and original Mercedes load liner, all tools and the original (non-working) stereo unit.
