Description

Chassis No. WDB1240301B278370

Engine No. 103.983.12.213637

Initially delivered to Japan, this Anthracite Grey Metallic 300 E began life as a highly optioned model with a Black leather interior, electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, four-speed automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, and possibly hinting at the ultimate intentions for this car, rarely seen Accelerated Skid Control (ASR) with a hydraulic locking differential.

The car was modified shortly after it was delivered new by AMG of Japan to its current "3.2-liter" specification. Housed beneath the hood is the true star of the show, the AMG modified 3.2-liter "M103" inline-six. It was additionally upgraded with a complete AMG exhaust system and 16-inch monobloc wheels with color-keyed centers. The car also received a complete aero kit consisting of a new front bumper with additional fog lights, side skirts, rear bumper, and a three-piece trunk spoiler finished in a monochromatic color scheme of Anthracite Grey Metallic, extending through the previously bright trim work, grille, and even the headlight wiper arms. The interior features AMG branded burl wood trim and an AMG four-spoke steering wheel that frames white-faced AMG gauges, centered around a 300 km/h speedometer with period-correct premerger AMG logos consistently seen throughout.

Remaining in Japan until 2015, this pre-merger AMG was then imported to the United States, where it has since been reported to have been routinely and thoroughly serviced. The accompanying history file shows recent service work in June 2022, which includes the installation of a new timing chain, timing chain tensioner, timing chain guides, engine oil pump, oil pump chain, chain tensioner, tensioner, front brakes pads, rotors, and hood pad spring and an engine oil and filter change, recharging the air conditioning, a coolant flush. Additional work in November 2021 includes replacing the fuel pump, fuel filter, harmonic balancer, and installing four new Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires. All of the wood trim in the car is reported to have been refinished to a high level by the previous owner.

As presented today, this captivating 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300 E 3.2 AMG perfectly showcases the best features of a highly desirable Japanese market, left-hand-drive pre-merger AMG.
