Georg Baselitz, 1938-2026, helped redefine art in the postwar period. He grew up near Dresden, witnessing World War II ruination and the ensuing East German communist regime. Such experiences naturally shaped his controversial but constantly evolving drawings, paintings, and sculptures. His thought-provoking style—especially his unconventional upside-down depiction of figures—served to reject traditional order and perception.
A towering figure in German contemporary art, Baselitz retained the Mercedes-Benz CL 600 offered here as his final personal car. Configured in Obsidian Black over a Black and Anthracite Exclusive leather interior featuring poplar wood trim, this car was lavishly equipped. Specification highlights include a rearview camera, blind spot assist, auxiliary heater, autonomous cruise control, heated steering wheel, satellite navigation, an inbuilt TV and DVD player, rear roller blind, infrared night view assist, premium sound system, voice controls, plus keyless-go.
Subtly selected without exterior badging and wearing a set of 19-inch AMG wheels, the twin-turbocharged V-12-powered CL 600 was completed in November 2007 prior to being registered to Baselitz in Inning am Ammersee. The odometer displayed 76,946 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
