Description

"AMG was founded as a racing engine forge in 1967 by former Mercedes-Benz engineers; the letters 'AMG' taken from their names; Aufecht, Melcher and Großaspach. In 1990, with AMG having become a high-profile purveyor of modified Mercedes-Benz cars, Daimler-Benz AG and AMG signed a contract of co-operation allowing AMG to leverage Daimler-Benz's extensive dealer network and leading to commonly developed vehicles (the first one being the Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG, in 1993). On 1st January 1999, Daimler-Chrysler acquired 51 percent of AMG shares and AMG was re-named to Mercedes-AMG. In 1995, the C-Class received its first genuine performance model, the C36 AMG, to counter the new six-cylinder BMW M3. The first in the line of the C-Class AMG’s and the first joint production car between AMG and Mercedes and was the first of the many Mercedes/AMG F1 Safety Cars that have subsequently followed the C36. Only 5,200 of these cars were produced, the vast majority being left hand drive. AMG took the sublime M104 straight six engine and bored it out and hand assembled it with forged pistons, bespoke camshafts and revised engine management systems to produce the C36’s 3.6 litre engine. It had racing-tuned suspension and the 3.6 litre engine had a general output of 276bhp accelerating from 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds and top speed was limited to 155mph, an unlimited top speed was recorded at 169mph.
This example was imported from Japan in 2014, it has been owned by just one owner, our vendor, here in the UK and has been beautifully maintained throughout by renowned Mercedes Specialists, Star Motors of Caversham. This particular C36 is nigh on unique due to its high specification and has some rare factory additions, such as the individual rear bucket sport seats which we have never seen before, electric sunroof, climate control, electric heated leather seats, black Birdseye maple wood trim, half wood AMG steering wheel and deep pile AMG floor mats. Supplied with a comprehensive service history including Japanese invoices and Star Motor Service invoices since 2014. The bodywork is in superb condition and the underside was fully waxoyled when it arrived in the UK in 2014 and thus is as good today as it was back then. It remains a low mileage car at 84,000 miles and very collectable yet underappreciated, a real wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Guide Price £10,000-£15,000
