Description

We are delighted to be able to offer for sale this time warp example of the Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL, finished in Astral Silver Metallic with Black Hide Seating. This 500 has had just one keeper from new, a Mr Leonard Rabin, who took delivery of the motor car from Bradshaw and Webb in Chelsea. It is believed that the car was serviced by them until they were taken over by Mercedes-Benz Retail, thereafter it received regular attention and its annual MOT inspection at M and G Autos, London.

The 500 SEL was cherished by Mr Rabin, as it was used sparingly, it now having covered just under 21,000 miles. When he was not being chauffeur driven in it, it was stored in his underground carpark in Chelsea and it appears to have never seen a salty road.

After Mr Rabin passed away, the car was sold and then recommissioned by Edward Hall, Mercedes-Benz specialist and it is now offered for sale.

The Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL was the saloon designed by Bruno Sacco with 4 doors and a front-mounted engine which delivers the power to the rear wheels. The Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL is one of the W126 range of cars from Mercedes-Benz.

The power is produced by a naturally aspirated engine of 5-litre capacity. This unit features double overhead camshaft valve gear, a 90-degree V8-cylinder layout, and 2 valves per cylinder. It produces 242 bhp (245 PS/180 kW) of power at 4750 rpm, and maximum torque of 400 NM (295 lb-ft) at 2750 rpm. A 4-speed automatic gearbox supplies the power to the wheels. Its claimed kerb weight is 1670 kg. Maximum speed claimed is 230 km/h or 143 mph, claimed fuel consumption is 9.1/11.4/15.4 l/100km 90 km/h / 120 km/h / urban as per 80/1268/EEC.
