"Mercedes-Benz have been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model or range of models since 1954. The similarly styled but mechanically unrelated 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. The second generation SL's began with the 230 in 1963. It was distinguished by its lower waistline, big curved screens and a distinctive optional hardtop that earned the model its nickname of `pagoda top'. Over its nine years of production, the second generation SL's engine grew in capacity from 2.3 litre (230 SL) to 2.5 litre (250 SL) and finally to a 2.8 litre (280 SL). The larger, third generation SL was launched in 1971, initially with just a 3.5 litre engine (350 SL) mated to four-speed automatic transmission. The examples produced from 1986 onwards (including the car we have on offer here) were equipped with a galvanised chassis and therefore are the most desirable.
Delivered new on 7th November 1989 to its first owner, Mrs Kyprianou of London, this wonderful 300 SL is offered in the desirable colour combination of silver champagne with a cream interior. Generally, the condition of the car is very good, the paintwork presents well with very few blemishes, as does the interior which is in very good order. Described to be in good driving condition, the Mercedes is offered with a sizeable history file detailing various maintenance work and service records. Included in the file are two service books with many service stamps, maintenance booklets, sundry invoices and various MoT test certificates, as well as the V5 registration document which shows there have been just five previous owners. The Mercedes also comes with three keys and a current MoT test certificate which is valid until May 2021. Showing a mere 76,270 miles on the odometer and with a comprehensive history file this 300 SL is not to be missed. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
