As François Chevalier recalled: “With our jobs taking up so much of our time, we found ourselves in the late 1970s. Bruno had the means. I had knowledge and contacts.” Bruno Lafourcade wanted a Mercedes 6.3L, the car of F1 drivers in the 1970s, but it was impossible to find a beautiful model. “I finally found this 6.9L which was perfect with only 50,000 km." After a while the hydro-pneumatic suspension at the rear sagged and François Chevalier sought advice from Bob Wollek, who was testing at the Paul Ricard circuit. "Get in touch with the workshop foreman at the Mirabeau garage” advised Wollek. The mechanic recommended equipping it with conventional springs, a conversion made by the Mirabeau garage. “This was his first car for sheer ‘pleasure’. Bruno used it very often and had driven countless miles behind the wheel.” The Mercedes has been meticulously monitored mechanically and a logbook shows each of the operations carried out. The original wheels will be provided to the future owner. Totaling 218,000 km, this Mercedes Benz 450 SEL 6.9L is very beautiful in its original configuration (apart from the rear suspension) and we leave the conclusion to Dominique Lafourcade, Bruno's wife. “I love the sound of the engine. It sounds like a Riva!"

The auction of this lot will take place on Friday 18 March 2022.
