The post-war Mercedes 300 series marked a return to the production of luxury cars for the German company. The cars had classical pre-war styling with well proportioned lines at a time when futuristic fins were the major influence. Aimed at the sports and grand touring market, the 300S was produced in low numbers, some 560 being manufactured between 1951 and 1955. The 300S models were sought after when new, despite being three times more expensive than a Cadillac, and they are no less desirable today. These sophisticated cars featured state of the art mechanicals.
