Description
1960 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet Chassis W12803011002112
French registration document The latest evolution of the W128, the 220 SE introduced a new engine with an aluminium cylinder head and fuel injection, replacing the two carburettors of the 220S.The example we are offering was delivered new in May 1960 in France. It was subsequently registered in 1975 in the Yonne department. In 1976, it changed hands again and was then registered in Paris. In the same year, it was acquired by a French diplomat. Based in Los Angeles, he had the car shipped to California. Registered with a Californian diplomatic licence plate, he drove this 220 SE for about ten years. In 1988, the car was acquired by another Frenchman based in California. Restored locally, it was repatriated to France in 1989. This enthusiast kept it until the early 2010s. It then had only one owner before the current owner acquired it in 2017. Following its acquisition, numerous refurbishment costs were incurred (fittings, upholstery, mechanics) amounting to several thousand euros. Today, apart from a few snags on the hood, this 220 SE is in good overall condition, with the old restoration giving it a beautiful patina. A legendary model from the early 1960s, the 220 SE combines modernity with the charm of pontoon lines.
