Description
Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1990, the Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II is the ultimate variant of the 190E sedan, designed to homologate the car for the German DTM race series. Immediately identifiable by its large adjustable rear wing, deep front air dam, and body side moldings, the Evolution II was wind-tunnel tested to ensure a combination of both decreased drag and increased downforce. Powered by a short-stroke 2.5-liter inline-four with the AMG Power Pack, this 190E’s powerplant shares little internally with the series production 190E 2.3-16, and produces 235 hp at 7,200 rpm.
This 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II was a one-owner car until it was imported to the US in 2023. Showing 113,391 km at the time of cataloguing, this Evolution II spent much of its life traveling between Germany and the owner’s vacation home in Ibiza. Finished in Blue Black Metallic, this car has been very well cared-for and is believed by the consignor to retain nearly all of its original paint, and the heavily bolstered black leather seats show only subtle wear. In 2018, the engine was overhauled by marque experts Sport+Technik of Müden, Germany, and a fluid service was performed before import.
This car – no. 76 of 502 – is an excellent example of Mercedes-Benz’s ultimate homologation car that has clearly been cherished from new.
