Description

The Mercedes-Benz W201 190-series sedan debuted in 1982 as the company’s budget model, but its advanced engineering made it a perfect platform for performance modifications. In subsequent years, Mercedes-Benz introduced the 190E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 models featuring a new Cosworth-designed 16-valve cylinder head that significantly boosted power, along with modifications to the suspension, bodywork, and interior. For the 190E to gain entry into DTM racing, the German automaker launched the Evolution I and Evolution II models and built approximately 500 examples of each to comply with FIA homologation regulations. Evolution models featured engines modified with an AMG-developed Power Pack, which produced 232 hp in Evolution II trim.

This 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II was delivered new to Japan before being purchased from a German dealer by its current owners in 2015. Showing just over 10,000 kilometers, it has seen sparing and careful use, and presents in wonderfully original condition. In February 2020, the Evo II was sent to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California, where it received a comprehensive service and various sorting.

Now ready for a new owner, this dramatic and aggressive homologation special epitomizes the golden era of the DTM and the glorious road cars from that time period. Sporting low mileage and a recent service from the experts at Mercedes-Benz, this 190E Evolution II is sure to bring enjoyment to all who encounter it.

*Please note that this vehicle will not be sold for use or resale in California or to a non-dealer California resident.
