Description

Chassis No. WDBVG7HB3CA003262

The reintroduction of the Maybach nameplate in 2002 was marked by an extraordinary display of grandeur that quickly became a hallmark of the brand. Transported across the Atlantic aboard the Queen Elizabeth II, encased in glass on the first-class sun deck, the new Maybach made a spectacular arrival in New York City, descending delicately by helicopter at its destination. Upon its debut, the Maybach not only elevated the standards of passenger cars but also redefined the legacy of the legendary Maybach motorcars from the 1920s and 30s.

The Maybach 62 S (Spezial), is so called to reflect the length of the automobile in meters, 6.2 to be exact. Inside, Maybach described the 62 S interior as "a world of superlatives," offering an exceptionally elegant and tranquil environment crafted from the finest materials, meticulously hand-built with unparalleled attention to detail. The cabin boasted up to 210 individual leather components and over 100 meticulously fitted pieces of exquisite wood trim. Underneath its opulent exterior, the Maybach 62 S housed a specially engineered twin-turbocharged "M285" Type 12 6.0-liter V12 engine, generating an impressive 620 horsepower and an astonishing 738 lb-ft of torque.

Finished in Baltic Black over an Aspen White Leather interior, this example-the top of the line 62 S model from the final model year available-benefits from exceptionally light use with less than 4,423 miles on the odometer at cataloging, a service history file, and a clean CARFAX. An exceptionally costly car throughout its six years on offer, in 2010 the 62 S received a styling refresh and by its final year on offer the cost for a 62 S had grown to just over $470,000. At that level, many of the standard features aboard the Maybach 62 S were unobtainable from other elite luxury car manufacturers. With reclining rear seats with leg and footrests, integral seats with massage function, rear folding tables, Keyless-Go, power closing doors and trunk lid, electronically controlled dual control air suspension, the 62 S became the luxury standard bearer. Beginning in 2011, to differentiate the 62 S from the standard 62 the headlamp surrounds were painted in the vehicle color and the radiator grille featured a twin louver design. A build sheet and service records from Mercedes-Benz of Paramus and Mercedes-Benz of Nanuet of that began in 2020 at 3,188 miles remain on file and available for review.

Of course, every Maybach 62 S is a highly customized automobile, and this particular example features a number of noteworthy extras when new that included the Glass Sunroof with Solar Panel Package, 20 inch 11-spoke wheels, and a Partition Wall with Intercom Package among other additional cost options. A refrigerator resides between the rear seats along with Maybach branded headphones for the fortunate rear occupants chauferred in seats resembling those in the first-class cabin of an intercontinental jet plane. As rare as it is impressive, the final Maybach 62 Ss continue to live up to Wilhelm Maybach's famous dictum, "To create the very best from the very best."
