C’est au début des années 30 que Ford France et le constructeur alsacien Mathis signent un accord pour créer la marque MatFord. Celle-ci nait donc en 1934 et produira des automobiles jusqu’en 1940. L’objectif des deux marques est alors bipartite : Ford doit pouvoir continuer à produire ses modèles américains et anglais en réduisant les droits de douanes liés à l’importation de pièces détachées tout recentrant sa gamme pour plaire aux clients français et Mathis doit se relever d’une situation financière délicate pour continuer à moderniser sa gamme. Le modèle phare de cette alliance sera donc la Matford Alsace V8.
Le modèle présenté est une MatFord Cabriolet de 1939. La voiture a été entièrement restaurée, du nez jusqu’à la malle arrière. Nous disposons d’un important dossier de photos démontrant le travail réalisé. Les planchers ont été refaits, tout comme les ailes, les portières avec armature en bois et l’intérieur. Aujourd’hui, la voiture se trouve dans un très bel état de présentation. La capote blanche dénote très bien de la peinture couleur cerise. Cette automobile nécessite une remise en route mécanique due à son immobilisation. Cette MatFord convertible V8 est un bel exemplaire des voitures françaises de la fin de la période avant-guerre.

Very nice restoration

In the early 1930s, Ford France and the Alsatian manufacturer Mathis signed an agreement to create the MatFord brand. This was born in 1934 and produced cars until 1940. The objective of the two brands was twofold: Ford had to be able to continue to produce its American and English models by reducing the customs duties linked to the import of spare parts, while refocusing its range to please French customers, and Mathis had to recover from a delicate financial situation to continue to modernise its range. The flagship model of this alliance will be the Matford Alsace V8.
The model presented is a 1939 MatFord Cabriolet. The car has been fully restored, from the nose to the rear trunk. We have a large file of photos showing the work done. The floors have been redone, as have the wings, the doors with wooden frames and the interior. Today, the car is in very good condition. The white bonnet stands out very well against the cherry-coloured paint. This car needs a mechanical overhaul due to its immobilisation. This MatFord V8 convertible is a fine example of late pre-war French cars.
