A true icon of the 60’s, the Maserati Ghibli was first shown to the world at the 1966 Turin motor show. Named after the Ghibli winds from Northern Africa; a wind you would expect from such a motorcar motoring along at over 160 mph!
Designed, at the time by Giorgetto Giugaro, on behalf of Ghia, the Ghibli received a steel body with a very imposing shark nose featuring pop up headlights. As a direct competitor to the Lamborghini Miura and the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, Maserati’s new tour de force housed a mammoth 4.7L quad-cam dry sump V8 designed by Giulio Alfieri and produced over 310 hp. The engine is mated to a five-speed ZF transmission, and an optional 3-speed automatic was offered as an alternative. The result of all this was a sprint to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of over 160 mph. The live rear axle, leaf springs and enormous torque, all in harmony, made the Maserati Ghibli a very flexible and easy to use GT of the era.
We are proud to offer for sale this lovingly restored example. This particular motorcar was ordered new by Rolma Automobili of Via Fontana, Milano in October of 1969. Finished in Beige (106. Y. 56) with Senape (PAC 1775) leather, a becker radio, with factory fitted Air conditioning and power steering. Dispatched from the factory on the 19th of January 1970 to Rolma, she was sold to her first owner Dr Enrico Amelotti from Pavia, Italy. Carrying the registration mark PV 221425, she received a service by the factory at 10,650 km.
By 1984, the motorcar had been imported to Pennsylvania in the United States and registered to Samuel D Burgio; then remaining in his ownership until 2012. Then sold by the Beverly Hills Car Club, she found a new home in London, United Kingdom with her current custodian.
Embarking on a no expense spared restoration at the end of 2014 that came to fruition in 2017, by the world-renowned McGrath Maserati; with invoices on file exceeding £120,000 from McGrath alone. This motorcar comes with her Maserati Classiche file, build sheets and is ready to be enjoyed with little miles completed since her complete rebuild.
With the current value of Daytona’s and Miura’s, the Maserati Ghibli is a great investment proposition with only 1170 coupes made.
