Description

"The 1987 Lotus Esprit benefitted from a far reaching restyle by Peter Stevens. Out went many of the sharp lines, to be replaced by a more organic aero look. It worked, too - the Esprit certainly looked like a contemporary product when launched, and still looks timeless today. Originally, the name Kiwi was proposed for the Esprit but, in keeping with the Lotus tradition of having all car model names start with the letter 'E', the name became Esprit. There was a little more power and a little more weight, but overall the Esprit experience was uncorrupted by the update. The Citroën SM gearbox was replaced by a Renault GTA unit, along with outboard rear brakes. The interior for both cars was revised and featured new trim; combined with changes to the body moulds this resulted in more headroom and an enlarged foot well.
A desirable non Turbo Esprit, this 1989 2.2 litre coupé was first registered on 6th October and was sold by Station Garage, Taplow. The car was specified in Pacific Blue with Magnolia leather interior with removable hardtop roof; a colour and trim option that was selected for just two UK Esprits. This example has clearly led a pampered existence and had the good fortune of being owned by Lotus enthusiasts. The extensive history file shows a wealth of paperwork, invoices and old MoT test certificates together with original Owner’s Handbook. 12 stamps can be found in the service booklet; the cambelt was changed at 63,239 miles and the most recent service by specialist Esprit Engineering was in 2017 at 65,492 miles. This desirable Esprit is in lovely condition throughout and comes supplied with a Lotus Certificate of Provenance together with a new MoT test certificate until April 2019. Lotus Esprits are gaining in popularity and with Series One cars now fetching well in excess of £50,000, this could be a car for both the enthusiast and the collector. Viewing is highly recommended."
