Description

KPU 390C, the ex-Alan Mann Racing Ford Lotus Cortina Works car driven by Frank Gardner and Sir John Whitmore to victory in the 1965 European Touring Car Championship and to second place in the 1966 season.

Alan Mann Racing sold the car in March 1967 via Sir Frank Williams to Swedish enthusiast T Johansson who raced the Ford in the Swedish Championships of 1967 and 1968 as a gentleman drivers entry – “only when the sun was shining” in the Swedes words.

He retained the car until 2003, entering in that year’s Bonhams Sale at The Goodwood Festival Of Speed. It was re-purchased at that sale by Alan Mann and remained in his collection until last year. There is an amusing exchange of letters on file following the auction between Allan Mann and Sir Frank Williams regarding the amount paid for the car in 2003 versus the sale price of 1967!

Very original, correct and in great shape with the rare Phase lV specification engine with BRM cams. Fully checked and serviced by Allan Mann Racing last year prior to a guest appearance at last year’s Bernina Gran Turismo hill climb.

Full and comprehensive history from new to date with incredible detail including race entries, programmes, organisational telex and hotel and ferry bookings for each 1966 event entered.

Detailed description to follow.
