Description

William I'Anson Ltd are delighted to offer for sale, this very competitive, Multiple Goodwood Revival Podium Placing, 1962 Lotus-BRM 24.

It is no secret that Goodwood’s Glover Trophy is one of our favourite races of the season and as such it is a delight to be able to offer a car that has repeatedly proven itself to be an absolute front runner in the event.

Since 2014 this car has been invited the Goodwood’s prestigious Glover Trophy seven times, only finishing outside of the top five on two of those occasions. With two 3rd place finishes and two front row starts, most recently it finished 2nd overall in the hands of the current owner’s son. It has also proven to be more than capable of out performing larger capacity cars within HGPCA grids.

Chassis 946 was one of just 10 Lotus 24s built, originally supplied by Lotus in 1962 with the stunning BRM P56 1.5-litre V8 engine. It went on to compete in numerous major events in period, including the 1962 British, German, Italian and Mexican Grands Prix, driven by Wolfgang Seidel, Gunter Seifert, Tony Shelly and Paddy Driver. Ran both with rear exit exhaust pipes as well as the iconic ‘stack pipe’ configuration, as seen on works BRM Formula 1 cars of this period.

Following a crash in 1963 and spending decades in dismantled condition, a restoration was carried out by Peter Denty Racing. Receiving a replacement chassis, built to original Lotus drawings, a new BRM V8 engine built by marque experts Hall & Hall costing over £100,000, and a period-correct Hewland gearbox.

Immaculately presented, the current owner has had 946 meticulously prepared by Scott Drnek and the team at Virtuoso Performance in San Francisco, California. This work included further development of the engine, new shock absorbers and a vigorous weight saving program.

Repeatedly proven to be an absolute front running contender, right down on weight, and remaining well within the running hours on its major components, this car is accompanied by a spare set of wheels, and represents a highly competitive opportunity to join some of historic motorsport's most evocative grids, and race around some of the worlds finest circuits.
