Description

Land Rover 88 Especial from 1972 in very good original condition.

- Launched by Enrique Coma-Cros, an important pilot and collector.
- It was used to travel around Europe towing Pegaso or Porsche sports cars.
- Equipped with two fuel tanks.
- Very rare 'Especial' version, the most luxurious manufactured by Santana.

This is an exceptional model due to its history and equipment, which is explained by its first owner.

Enrique Coma Cros (1936-2022) was one of the great personalities of the Spanish automotive sector. Member of Escudería Barcelona in its beginnings, he was a sporadic driver in rallies, circuits and other races of that time. Before cars, he had been a motorboat pilot, an activity in which he achieved resounding sporting successes, standing out in one European and three Spanish championships.

A versatile businessman, he was also an importer of exotic and sports vehicles to Spain, as well as the owner and restorer of several Pegaso sports cars from the 1950s. This Spanish brand was his passion, coming to write the 'bible' of Pegaso vehicles, with his books: 'Ricart-Pegaso la pasión por el automóvil' and the double volume of 'Los automóviles Pegaso y sus protagonistas'.

Enrique, co-founder of the 'Escuderia Montjuic', of 'Amigos Porsche 356 España', and compiler of an extensive archive in its 'Centro Histórico del motor', also standing out as a manager in his companies and all kinds of projects related to the automobile.

This Land Rover was acquired by the Coma Cros family to act as a towing vehicle for the cars they used to run, so it was equipped with an additional 80-litre rear tank, which occupies the entire bench of seats on the back right. This meant the car could move long distances without stopping to refuel. It was also fitted with a hand throttle and two spare wheels.

The car is in good original condition. It was only repainted several years ago, covering the galvanised parts with paint. Everything still works fine and it has the original documentation in effect and the valid MOT.

Santana's IIA Especial series was the most luxurious. It originally had four headlights on the front (even before the presentation of the Series III), and the interior was fully upholstered, including doors and interior roof.

It also included heating or hubcaps on the wheels. This unit retains the original bill of sale, for an amount of 270,010 pesetas of the time.
Books and original car documentation are also included, as well as an extra set of keys.

It is located in San Sebastian de los Reyes, Madrid, Spain.

Auctions bids do not include transport or export unless otherwise stated.
