Description
In 1956, 4’433 Land Rover with the short (86 inch) wheelbase left the Solihull plant as left hand drive versions, destined for export. Primarily built as a purely utility vehicle, this incarnation of the true off-roader only offers very basic equipment and, with its removable soft top, very limited protection from the elements. On the other hand, it was extremely robust and was able to get into terrain just about unthinkable for any other off-roader. The Landy soon became the favourite means of transport for farmers and forest workers and over time became not only legendary in itself but also proved very popular on the second-hand market. This example was delivered in Switzerland on the 8th of June 1956 in the Neuchatel Canton. Presumably restored several years ago, this rare Series one example was taken over by the vendor in September 2021 and added to his little collection. Since then, the Landy has only been driven around 700 kilometres but was always stored in a safe and dry environment. The two-litre petrol engine with 52 hp is running very well and the four-speed gearbox with its (off-road) terrain ratios is shifting in its typical rustic manner. Coachwork and interior are in good condition with age correct patina. Certified as a 7-seater, this legendary British icon will also suit outings besides the beaten path with the whole family. The last Veteran MOT was completed in September 2021.
