Description

"The first generation Range Rover was not initially designed as a luxury 4x4; although certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models. The early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards designed to be washed down with a hose. Features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth or leather seats, and wooden interior trim were fitted later. It was a body-on-frame design with a box section ladder type chassis similar to contemporary Land Rovers. It utilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes and was originally powered by the Rover V8 engine.
This low mileage Range Rover Classic on offer today was manufactured during the first year’s production of the four door model. In the rare colour combination of Shetland Beige, which was only in production for two years, it is complemented by the original bronze velvet trim which shows very little sign of wear. Also original are the one-piece door trims in Palomino. Typical of these early four-door examples, it features the pop riveted wings and body panels found on the two-door, which was changed at the BA series.
The vendor describes this Range Rover as mechanically very, very good, drives tight and performs well with no feeling of wear in any of the mechanics. We are also informed the underside is completely original and solid with no welding or repairs, and has recently been stripped and treated with Waxoil; a treatment which, importantly, was photographed before, during and after. The car also benefits from a recent bare metal respray; again with photographic record and also new headlining in a recent refresh. The car is offered with desirable option of power steering, the original jack and majority of tools, and the accompanying history file contains an MoT test certificate, valid until January 2019. With prices buoyant for these early Range Rovers, quality should not be confused with price; however, this particular model has been suitably cherished and priced sensibly."
