Description

"Although now responsible for a whole lifestyle movement, the Range Rover had more humble beginnings. The first generation Range Rover was introduced in 1970 and was not designed as a luxury 4x4; whilst certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards that were designed to be washed down with a hose. Convenience features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth or leather seats and wooden interior trim were fitted later in the production run or as options. Marketed as 'A Car For All Reasons', the Range Rover was more capable off-road than the Land Rover but was much more comfortable, offering a top speed in excess of 100mph.
This handsome three-door Range Rover was built in 1979 and was imported by its car enthusiast vendor in 2014. Presenting extremely well in the period colour of Bahama Gold with a retrimmed beige interior, we are informed that a £5,000 recommissioning and light restoration was undertaken by the owner at the start of his tenure. This appears to be money well spent. Since then, this Range Rover has been dry stored. The vendor states that this classic 4x4 from the world famous Solihull factory is a joy to drive and is as comfortable as it is practical. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, this MoT exempt Land Rover is sensibly estimated given the huge popularity of what is considered by many as the best 4x4 by far."
