- En 1990, Land Rover revoit sa stratégie de gamme, et prend la décision de renommer ses 90 et 110. Exit même le logo Land Rover, le 4x4 quasi-utilitaire de la firme s’appellera Defender ! La recette reste la même, le look mythique aussi, seuls certains aspects évoluent pour faire entrer le Defender dans l’ère moderne, notamment et surtout au niveau de la finition !
- L’évolution la plus marquante reste au niveau du compartiment moteur, avec l’adoption des nouveaux moteurs Tdi, plus puissants, coupleux, et moins consommateurs ! En 1998, les Tdi sont abandonnés à la faveur du TD5, le 5-cylindres de 2,5 l turbocompressé.
- L’exemplaire qui illustre ces pages a bénéficié il y a quelques années d’une restauration complète de grande qualité. La combinaison de couleur est extrêmement élégante et évoque celle utilisée pour l’Heritage Edition, dernière édition spéciale avant la sortie du nouveau Defender !
- Aujourd’hui, la voiture est en très bel état général, et fonctionne très bien. La peinture est bien conservée, et la sellerie, en cuir et alcantara, présente une légère patine qui lui va parfaitement. Notre essai routier n’a pas décelé de défauts particuliers, et les quelque 78 200 km qu’indique le compteur sont sans doute d’origine !
