In 1966, Lancia would introduce their first purpose-built homologation model aimed at rallying: the Fulvia 1.2 HF, or “Hi-Fi.” Released in 1971, the Lancia Fulvia Coupe 1600 HF “Series 2” was the pinnacle of Lancia’s development on the Fulvia platform. The diminutive 1,800-pound chassis utilized lightweight bodywork, a revised suspension, and a carbureted 1.6-liter V-4 engine which was mated to a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission. Compared to the large-headlight “Fanalone” Fulvia that preceded it, these later cars had smaller headlights—hence the “Fanalino” nickname. In either guise, the success of the Lancia program was evident; between 1966 and 1973 almost no rally championships in continental Europe were without a “Hi-Fi” Fulvia on the podium.

Presented in the attractive works livery of Rosso Corsa over a black interior, this 1600 HF Series 2 benefits from a well-documented competition history under the banner of the Squadra Corsa Estense racing team of Ferrara, Italy. Between 2008 and 2014, this chassis participated in no fewer than 24 events across Europe, collecting stage wins and event podiums in Italy, France, and Monte Carlo—including six consecutive runnings of the Monte Carlo Historique and a series victory in the 2012 Cote d’Azur Championship.

Purchased from the Estense team in November 2014, this chassis was imported to the United States shortly thereafter and remains in race-prepared condition. The cabin is appropriately outfitted with a roll cage, period-style racing buckets and Kingdragon harnesses, facing a set of dash-mounted auxiliary gauges and a Sparco steering wheel. The 1.6-liter engine has been modified with upgrades from Lancia specialists Ricambi Rossocorsa of Genova, Italy. A set of correct Cromodora wheels, flared wheel arches, and rally headlamps are complimented by the purposeful presence of a range-extending auxiliary fuel tank.

This race-prepared homologation Lancia is now offered for sale accompanied by a spare wheel, jack, owner’s manual, FIVA ID card, ACI paperwork, rally documentation, and historic imagery. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/az21.
