Description

Rare original condition, beautiful noble history, well documented, great driving, beautiful Pininfarina design: just a few key words that refer to our latest acquisition: a unique 1968 Lancia Flavia Coupe 1800 Iniezione.

The beautifully styled Coupe was delivered on November 20th, 1968 to Villa Oliva in Torre del Greco Italy. The owner, Edna von Hillern-Flinsch, daughter of the famous German artist Wilhelm von Hillern-Flinsch, was married to Count Paolo Gaetani dell’Aquila d’Aragona and could therefore call herself contessa, or countess. Villa Oliva was not only a great place for the Lancia, but was also used as a location for a film with world famous actress Ingrid Bergman. Other well known people apparently felt there too at home, because one of the greatest Italian actors of the time, named Tòto, was a close friend of the family. One of the photos showing the family and Tòto, the man who holding a sheet of paper. Whether this is the purchase invoice of the Lancia, we do not know, but he looks at the paper very carefully, so it could very well be possible. That would be nice for the story, but we do not know that for sure.. At the left side of Tòto, Contessa Edna is looking very proud and the suspicion that the Lancia is behind the photographer seems reasonable to us. It is in any case a nice picture of a chic family. We are even more pleased with this picture because we can now show the “face” behind the car.

Contessa Edna had the Lancia in (family) possession from November 20th, 1968 to November 3th, 1995 when enthusiast and village inhabitant Raffaela Scialo came at the gate of Villa Olive and said he would like to take over the car. He was the owner until February 10th. 2014. The Lancia has therefore remained in the town of Torre del Greco for 46 years! To make the story even more unique: the Rosso Amaranto Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint that we offer at this moment also belonged to Scialo .. Now you may think that the cars have stayed together, but that is not true. They came to us through separate owners. Very special of course, such an Italian family reunification.

The Lancia was sold by Mr Scialo in 2014 to a Dutchman and registered in the Netherlands. This owner has had the Lancia taken care of technically by a real Flavia specialist. Brakes, tires and injection system were done, among other things. All invoices are of course present. After a few years of enjoyment and wonderfully stored in his heated and “Italian decorated” garage, we were allowed to take over the car.

After this whole story we have to get to the point: what can we actually offer? A very genuine, original, and not ruined, Italian Lancia Flavia Coupe from the third owner. With an 1800 injection engine, which runs wonderfully soft, a gearbox of which the gears can be switched with one finger, and drives really well. A very nice mix of classic, sportiness and comfort. The body is in an unprecedented original condition and is showing, except some minor traces of use, no misery. The wonderful classic color lacquer, called Grigio Tor Di Valle, has been renewed once in the past, purely for cosmetic reasons, and caused by the bright Italian sun. The not professional enthusiast will think that it is still original, the paint seems to be that old already, but that is the beauty of the car: it is completely in balance and is blessed with a rare beautiful patina. The interior is no exception, because it still looks great. Now we do not suspect the Contessa to have worn jeans, but her graceful dresses have left no traces of wear on the dark red vinyl upholstery. That was a new product at the time, and of course the Contessa had to have that. Although it cost more than leather, and the macho Italian seller of course described this as being hard-wearing. And he was right too.

All documents are included with the car, including the original Libretto, photos, the map of Storico Italiano, invoices, etc. We see the purchase of this fantastic Lancia as a privilege to continue the special history. First and foremost, you, yourself, but also the Contessa, and us, of course, would enjoy it.
